Summer Training Program in University of Regina

Please read the following information on the Summer Training Program inUniversity of Regina, Canada. Those who are interested, please contact your division leader. The deadline for the division leaders to hand in the list of the applicants will be Friday, April 15th.

 

 

Summer Training Program inUniversityofRegina

 

 

The Program would encompass 22 days, from July 23 to August 13th and would include 14 days of instructional activities, including opportunities to observe TESOL teaching in several settings such as the University's ESL Centre, the ESL classes offered by the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences, The Regina Public Library, the Regina Open Door Society, etc. Participants will also have opportunities, at no extra cost, to participate in local cultural activities, and to visit provincial museums,WascanaPark(one of the largest urban parks in the world) andWascanaLake, the Saskatchewan Legislature, and other points of interest in the City of Regina. There will also be an optional three day trip to the RoyalTyrrellMuseumin Drumheller, Alberta, the City of Calgary, andBanffNational Park.

 

 

The instructional program will address the following topics:

 

Theories & Research in Second Language Acquisition

 

Proposed Topics Include:

 

Ø        Factors Influencing Second Language Acquisition

 

Ø        Comprehension vs. Production.

 

Ø        Corrective Feedback & Uptake

 

Ø        Form-Focused Instruction

 

Ø        Development of Learner Language & Cognition

 

Ø        Teacher-Student Interaction in Classroom Settings

 

Ø        Social Dimensions of L2 Learning

 

Ø        Use of L1 in L2 Classroom

 

Theories & Research in Second Language Teaching Methods & Curriculum

 

 Proposed Topics Include:

 

Ø        Approaches to Teaching

 

Ø        Teaching Grammar

 

Ø        Teaching Pronunciation

 

Ø        Teaching Speaking & Listening

 

Ø        Teaching Vocabulary

 

Ø        Teaching Reading & Writing

 

Ø        Assessment

 

Ø        Technologies in the Classroom

 

 

The cost of the program would be $2.200 CAD (approximately $15,000 RMB at today's conversion rate) per student. This amount would cover all instructional costs, medical insurance, activities in Regina, accommodation in student residence (two participants sharing a room), and two meals a day (student residences have kitchen facilities and participants will be taken shopping for groceries so that they can prepare their own breakfasts and snacks). This cost would not cover participants' airfare. The three day trip to Alberta would be optional and would cost an additional $500 CAD.
